Course Description
This course is aligned with the district and state standards and supports the school wide efforts in increasing student achievement. Introduction to Art gives the student an overview of the basics of creating, evaluating, and relating to the visual arts. It includes components in such areas as Aesthetics, Art Criticism, Art History, Art Appreciation, and the use of tools and techniques to create visual art pieces
Course Objectives:
At the conclusion of this course the students will:
identify and experiment with a variety of art materials
identify and apply the concepts behind a variety of historical art styles
evaluate and critique famous and personal art works
comprehension and application of visual arts vocabulary and concepts
create numerous two dimensional and three dimensional art pieces
Classroom Rules and Consequences:
Promptness-please be in the door and ready to work at the bell.
Attendance-this is a studio art class. It is important for you to be in class. You must complete 90% of the class assignments in the classroom.
Attention-please give the teacher your FULL QUIET ATTENTION at all times.
Deadlines-your work is DUE on the date posted on the board under due date. Please talk to me if you need more time to complete the work to your satisfaction. I will be happy to give you more time to work if you have been working hard on your project. Please see me for an alternate assignment if you have been ABSENT.
Respect-Please show respect to your fellow students, your teacher, and the materials provided. Proper language, care of materials, and appropriate classroom behavior, including a good attitude, are IMPORTANT.
Clean Up-Please clean up your work area and materials.
Make up, Long-Term Projects, Excused and Unexcused Absences:
All long term projects are due on the date and time assigned. No exceptions.
It is your responsibility to meet with me after you have been absent to receive an alternate work deadline.
If a student is absent on the due day work can be dropped off during 6th hour.
Any work missed from an EXCUSED absence must be made up following the day.
Work missed when an absence is unexcused cannot be made up for credit.
All assignments are posted on the calendar near my desk. Please refer to it if you have been absent. Please speak with me about missed work after attendance has been taken.
Behavior:
All students are expected to act appropriately in the classroom. Respectful and responsible behavior is a sign of maturity. Inappropriate behaviors, such as talking during instruction, misusing materials, rough housing, etc... will not be tolerated.
First Behavior Notice-verbal warning.
Second Notice-call to parents.
Third Notice-Before Lunch Art Room Clean-up.
Serious or Repeated Negative Behaviors-referral or call to Conduct Office.
Daily Class Procedure:
Begin Sketch Journal Entry/Bell Ringer
Prepare for Assignment, gather all materials. ( Art Box)
Clean around your work area.
Copy all homework assignments or announcements off of the board.
Prepare for the bell.
